Roast Records 019 - Kongo and Karatina AA by Allpress

Something very different on roast records today, as I have 2 bags of coffee, both from Allpress, and both sent to me to try for my cold brew at Chummys Bakery. Let's discover both and decide which is best for the task I want them for.

Kongo

To start, Kongo is roasted for espresso, and that does show. Darker roasted, which I have been told is better for a cold brew. Strong chocolate flavours and, when paired with milk, promanate orange flavour.

Kongo reminds me of a coffee I had at Origin on Charlotte Road, being there Pathfinder Coffee, which also has taste notes of orange.

Karatina AA

Karatina AA is a fun, juicy coffee. Very fruity when brewed right. Unfortunately, I found it is hard to get right. What I mean is that I tried it in a couple of pour-over methods, and none I really liked, but cold was different; whether that was a cold brew, flash brew or iced latte, it was very, very good.

Really fun taste notes on this coffee and ones you don't see often, like lime and gooseberry.

Summery

In all, I had a lot of fun comparing these coffees and finding the best for my menu. The Kongo is best in milk and as an espresso and the Karatina AA is great and fun but no exacly what i was looking for.

Huge thank you to allpress, as they always support what we are doing at Chummys and support myself at Odyssey coffee project.
