Cruz Loma is a honey process, which means that during drying, the mucilage that would typically be removed in a washing process is retained. This seals sweetness and flavour into the coffee beans.
This coffee is very tea-like, for example, citrus tea or iced tea. Other taste notes are a subtle stone fruit, maybe peach or apricot. To ensure you get all the flavours, it works best as a pour-over with lots of pours. Another technique is the upside-down Aeropress, which involves brewing 20 grams of coffee and 100 ml of water upside down, then adding 170 ml of water.
NewGrounds History
NewGrounds' story starts early 2018 with the mission of coffee with conviction, where ex-offenders work to help them blend back into society and help them not re-offend. I think this is a fantastic idea and something unique in the coffee world, helping bring exposure to the genre.
Taken from their website, we believe coffee can go beyond the cup and can be used as a catalyst for change right here in our very own communities. This is why we use our business to create work and training opportunities for ex-offenders across the UK, giving some of the most overlooked people in society a new beginning.
Summery
In all, NewGround is a fantastic roastery giving opportunities to people that are normally overlooked. As well as this, their coffee offerings are amazing, especially Cruz Loma.
Priced at £74.80 for a KG and £22.00 for 250 grams, this is a higher price point but well worth it.
