Roast records 008 - 575 EL Bocadillo By Scenery
A fan favourite in London and the south of England, these relatively new kids on the block are changing people's coffee palates right here in the capital. A long-awaited roastery for me, and I'm glad I was able to stop by and grab a bag of this wonderful coffee. Get ready to explore this incredible roast record!

The brew
The best word to describe this coffee is 'WOW', as with the right brew method you can really taste those notes listed on the bag. As a small-batch pour-over with my Orea O1, you can taste a heavy white chocolate spread with a sort of alcohol aftertaste. In a filter you get a bright cup with subtle notes of blueberry, jam and blackcurrant.
I tried this coffee as an espresso but found it often under-extracted. On Scerney's website they recommend a Turbo-shot at 18 grams of ground coffee, 50 grams of liquid coffee out at 20 seconds.
575 EL Bocadillo BY Scenery is a Gesha varietal which has become something of a buzzword in speciality coffee in recent years. This was my first Gesha experience, and I must say that the taste is much brighter than most other varietals.
Scenery's History
Started by three guys in 2023 that have a combined 30 years in the coffee industry. Their mission is to make coffee that they love, and they swear they roast what they drink. Using upcycled furniture and using sustainable practices.
Scenery is big on their artwork for the bags; working with Lucus Garcia, he develops an illustration that best represents the landscape, geography and region where the coffee is grown.

Conclusion
This coffee is incredible, from a roastery I love, and the coffee backs that up. I recommend you grab a bag or 2, maybe 3. I would rank Scerney in the upper echelon of rosters.
575 El Bocadilla is priced at £59 for only 500 grams. Although this is pricey, I think the experience makes it worthwhile.
