Roast records 006 - Nestor Lasso X Cata by Assembly

A roast record I have been waiting to do for awhile, one of the big dogs of speciality coffee, Assembly, and this is a great pick to showcase them. Based in Brixton, London, and enjoyed in plenty of cafes up and down the UK. If you have ever visited a speciality coffee shop, there's a good chance you have had Assembly's house espresso roast.

Let's jump in!!!!

Taste notes

Watermelon

Mango

Syrup

Origin and region

Colombia

Hulia

El Diviso

Recommended brew method

Aeropress

V60

Pour-over

Coffee

This is not the first time I have had assembly; my first cafe review on a Scandinavian coffee pod in Cheltenham used Assembly's house blend for their espresso. Going into this, I had high expectations, and I can say that it delivered.

A stunning Aeropress that intensifies the watermelon flavour and syrup aroma. The cup is very clean, with a refreshing taste. I was getting the same taste from a V60, but when I got my new Orea Baby brewer and put 16g of ground coffee in and 260g of liquid coffee out, I got the sweet mango that the flavour guide suggested.

Nestor Lasso X Cata also works well in milk-based beverages, which I believe is due to the syrup properties and mango undertones.

Assemblys History

Assemberly was founded in 2015 in Brixton, South London, by a small team all working for Volcano Coffee, an established speciality coffee roaster in South London. Since their establishment, they have made a name for themselves in the coffee industry, renowned for their superior coffee and equipment.

The start of their journey was really interesting, taken from Assembly's website: In April 2015, we launched Assembly Coffee as headline sponsors of the inaugural Coffee Masters at London Coffee Festival, and there began our journey.

Summery

Overall, Nestor Lasso X Cata by Assembley was amazing, primarily in a pour-over or Aeropress but also in a flat white or cortado.

The price is very high at £99.00 a KG, but you are getting very high quality.

I'm excited to see what assembly has in store over the next year.
