Scenery, Union st, London
Time for another Odyssey coffee blog; this is one of the best yet. Located not far from Borough Market on Union St is the mighty scenery. Known for its amazing coffee and cool artwork.
Let's jump in.
Coffee Conversation
A flat white first, as usual and as expected, was brilliant. Perfect milk texture and good latte art. This coffee was their facility blend with taste notes of milk chocolate, dark fruits and sweet, i was getting apple pie and spices like nutmeg or cinnamon.
Next I had their daily batch brew, which on this day was their seasonal blend, colourful, and this was good – not a punchy flavour like I expected but nice and easy to drink. This had taste notes of red fruits, root beer, and pink peppercorn, but I got a cherry flavour.
Scenery's History
Started by three guys in 2023 that have a combined 30 years in the coffee industry. Their mission is to make coffee that they love, and they swear they roast what they drink. Using upcycled furniture and using sustainable practices.
Scenery is big on their artwork for the bags; working with Lucus Garcia, he develops an illustration that best represents the landscape, geography and the region the coffee is grown.
I implore you to check out the scenery website and have a look at the coffee bags and art prints.
The Decor
A beautiful cafe, a minimalist space with high ceilings, lots of plants and a heavy use of raw materials like wood and concrete. As soon as you walk through the front door, you're greeted by an open room that primarily houses the bar.
The cafe provides table service, which is uncommon. The staff are very friendly and have an understanding of what they are serving. The seating area is in a separate room from the bar; I thought this was an intriguing and daring decision, but it was executed flawlessly.
Value for money
I was surprised by the price of scenery due to the area and the prestige of the cafe. I thought the price would be high, but I was wrong. The flat white cost £4.20, while the batch brew was £3.30.
Scenery also offers a wide variety of food, which I did not try but looked delicious. Looking at the menu, the prices appeared to be reasonable.
Conclusion
To conclude, Scenery is a brilliant coffee shop. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves coffee. The artwork for the bags and prints is stunning.
It's also great to see the wide variety of retail coffees available. roasted on site with a range of different methods, why not pick up a bag?
