Ozone, Shoredich, London
A little extra this month, and what a fun one it was. Ozone on Leonard St, Shoreditch. A cool brunch spot that has excellent coffee paired with beautiful breakfast and lunch options.
Il caffè
Unfortunately, I only had time for the one coffee, but the flat white I did have was exceptional, with good latte art and good milk consistency. The coffee was served very hot, which was a surprise, as most other places I have been they have been too cold. the coffee was there house blend with taste notes of milk chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts.
I wish I had more time because they had some fascinating batch brews, as well as a coffee syphon, which I hope to try.
Ozone's history
Reading a bit about Ozone on their website, they stand for creating enjoyable coffee, whether it's a single origin or a blend. They market primarily to the majority, aiming to include everyone.
Three friends founded Ozone in Fitzroy, New Plymouth, New Zealand, in 1998 with the goal of creating an inspiring coffee shop. They eventually opened a store in London Fields and this one on Leonard Street as part of their later expansion to London.
Back to the shop
The shop has rustic decor, wooden floors, metal furniture and leather booths. The room features brilliant warm lighting and plenty of plants. I am a massive fan of the Ozone artwork; I just wish they displayed more of it around the walls or had a mural on the wall.
The variety of retail options, including coffee bags and equipment like Aeropresses and Chemex coffeemakers, really impressed me.
Monetary value
Located in one of London's more fashionable areas, I was expecting a high price, and the flat white being £4.50 was exactly that. Unfortunately there is a mandatory 15% service charge as well, making the flat white £5.18, which is on the expensive side. Despite everything, I still think the cafe is a good choice because they serve brunch.
The retail options are more affordable than anticipated; a 220g bag of coffee costs less than £15, which is fantastic.
Summery
In summary, Ozone Shoreditch is a wonderful brunch spot. I wouldn't suggest it as a coffee shop alone, but this cafe is a great option if you're looking for a delicious breakfast or lunch and a great cup of coffee to go with it.
Since I adore the coffee and the company's philosophy, I would like to visit Ozones' other locations in London and New Zealand.
