Origin, Charlotte road, Shoreditch, London
Wow, you may say, another Odyssey coffee blog. I am on a roll. This is an exciting one for me due to Origin being the first roast record I ever wrote. I have to say there Charlotte Road coffee shop didn't disappoint.
Let's roll on into the blog!!!!
An Koffi
Another coffee shop; I only had time for one coffee, for which I'll always choose a flat white. This is because it highlights both the barista's skill and the espresso.
A gorgeous coffee made with Origin's Pathfinder beans. Excellent latte art as well as great milk texture. The cup was really cool and nice to hold. The coffee had taste notes of orange marmalade, nectarine, and cocoa.
This coffee had a strong orange flavour, but it was a pleasant natural orange, not the ultra-synthetic orange that many confectionery items now use.
Origins history
Origin was established in 2004 and has since grown to become one of the top speciality coffee roasters in Europe, appearing in both home coffee bars and numerous cafes throughout the continent.
The company's headquarters are located in Porthleven, Cornwall, England, where they roast their amazing coffee and provide barista classes. Origin also has cafes located in London, Bristol and even Edinburgh.
Origin now has seven locations spread across three regions in the United Kingdom: the South West, London, and Scotland.
Back to the shop
I was impressed with the shop. The main floor had a Scandinavian feel with light walls and plenty of wooden furniture and fittings. The shop was very clean, with the baristas constantly checking to see if things needed clearing.
Despite being in a remote part of Shoreditch, the store had a lot of customers, from the few who were seated inside to the large number who came in to get takeaway. One thing that surprised me was that I was only there for about 25 minutes, and two people brought retail bags of coffee, which is unusual in my experience.
Value for money
Another well-priced cafe located in one of London's trendier spots (Shoreditch). The flat white was £4.00, which is only a penny over Costa. The comparison of how far apart those actually are is mental.
Batch brews are priced around £3.80, and non-coffee drinks are £4.50. All things considered, this cafe is likely among the greatest choices for value.
The Judgement
Overall, Origin, Charlotte Road, is an amazing cafe for both a quick takeaway coffee and a balanced, calm sit-down coffee. I was very impressed and now have high expectations for other origins' locations. I believe Origin are capable of more, and I am excited to see their next innovation.
